KarooKit is committed to providing customers with quality vehicle accessories and fair, transparent and professional customer service.
This Returns, Refunds & Cancellation Policy applies to purchases made through KarooKit.co.za and is intended to operate in accordance with applicable South African consumer protection legislation, including the Consumer Protection Act 68 of 2008 (CPA) and the Electronic Communications and Transactions Act 25 of 2002 (ECTA).
Nothing in this policy is intended to exclude, restrict or waive any consumer right or remedy that cannot lawfully be excluded or limited.
Where South African law provides a customer with a greater right than this policy, the applicable law will take precedence.
Where a customer simply changes their mind about a purchase, orders the wrong vehicle accessory, no longer requires the product, or otherwise wishes to return a product for reasons unrelated to a defect or error by KarooKit, KarooKit may accept the return subject to this section.
A discretionary change-of-mind return request must generally be made within 7 to 14 days of receiving the product.
For a discretionary change-of-mind return:
For an approved discretionary change-of-mind return, KarooKit will refund 70% of the purchase price of the returned product.
Original delivery/shipping fees are excluded from this discretionary refund.
The customer is responsible for the cost of returning the product to KarooKit.
This 70% refund rule does not apply where a customer is exercising a statutory right under South African law that requires a different remedy.
3. STATUTORY COOLING-OFF PERIOD FOR ONLINE PURCHASES
Customers purchasing goods through an electronic transaction may have a statutory cooling-off right under section 44 of the Electronic Communications and Transactions Act 25 of 2002.
Where section 44 applies, a consumer may cancel the transaction without reason and without penalty within seven days after receipt of the goods.
The only charge that may generally be levied under this cooling-off provision is the direct cost of returning the goods.
Where payment has already been made, the applicable statutory refund is a full refund, subject to the requirements and exclusions contained in the legislation.
The ECTA provides that the refund under the cooling-off provision must be made within 30 days of cancellation.
Accordingly, KarooKit’s 70% discretionary refund does not apply to a valid statutory cooling-off cancellation under section 44.
4. IMPORTANT DISTINCTION BETWEEN COOLING-OFF RETURNS AND CHANGE-OF-MIND RETURNS
The following distinction applies:
Statutory cooling-off cancellation
Where a qualifying customer exercises a statutory cooling-off right under the ECTA, the applicable statutory remedy will apply, including the applicable full refund provisions.
Where the customer is not exercising a statutory right and KarooKit voluntarily accepts a change-of-mind return outside the statutory cooling-off provisions, the 70% refund policy may apply.
This distinction is intended to ensure that KarooKit’s commercial return policy does not unlawfully reduce a consumer’s statutory rights.
5. DEFECTIVE OR FAULTY PRODUCTS
KarooKit recognises the consumer rights provided by the Consumer Protection Act.
If a product is defective, unsafe, faulty, of poor quality, or does not meet the applicable requirements of the CPA, the customer may have statutory rights to return the product and receive an appropriate remedy.
Depending on the circumstances and applicable law, the remedy may include:
The CPA provides statutory protections relating to defective goods and includes a six-month implied warranty in specified circumstances.
The 70% discretionary refund does not apply to valid statutory defect or quality claims.
6. GOODS THAT ARE NOT SUITABLE FOR THEIR INTENDED PURPOSE
Where applicable, customers may have rights under the Consumer Protection Act if goods fail to satisfy applicable quality, description or intended-purpose requirements.
KarooKit will assess such complaints in accordance with the CPA and any other applicable legislation.
A customer will not be required to accept a reduced 70% refund where the law provides a different remedy.
If KarooKit sends a product that is different from the product ordered, please contact us as soon as possible.
KarooKit will investigate the matter and, where the incorrect product was supplied by KarooKit, provide an appropriate remedy in accordance with applicable law.
Depending on the circumstances, this may include:
Where KarooKit is responsible for the error, reasonable return arrangements will be handled in accordance with the customer’s legal rights.
8. PRODUCTS DAMAGED DURING DELIVERY
Customers should inspect their orders upon receipt.
If a product arrives visibly damaged, please contact KarooKit as soon as reasonably possible and provide photographs of:
KarooKit will investigate the matter and provide the applicable remedy in accordance with South African consumer law.
9. VEHICLE ACCESSORY COMPATIBILITY
Because KarooKit sells vehicle accessories, customers are strongly encouraged to confirm compatibility before purchasing and, where possible, before opening or installing the product.
Customers should verify relevant information such as:
Where the customer orders an incorrect accessory due to providing incorrect vehicle information or selecting the wrong product, the return may be treated as a discretionary change-of-mind return.
Once an accessory has been installed, used, modified or damaged, it may not qualify for a discretionary change-of-mind return.
This does not affect statutory rights relating to defective, unsafe, incorrectly described or otherwise legally protected goods.
10. INSTALLED OR USED VEHICLE ACCESSORIES
Customers should inspect products and verify compatibility before installation.
A product that has been installed, fitted, used, modified or altered may not qualify for KarooKit’s discretionary change-of-mind return.
Where the product is defective or another statutory consumer right applies, KarooKit will assess the claim according to applicable legislation.
11. PRODUCTS THAT MAY BE EXCLUDED FROM DISCRETIONARY RETURNS
Subject to statutory consumer rights, KarooKit may exclude the following from discretionary change-of-mind returns:
These exclusions do not remove any statutory rights that cannot lawfully be excluded.
Customers may contact KarooKit to request cancellation of an order as soon as possible after placing the order.
Where an order has not yet been dispatched, KarooKit will make reasonable efforts to cancel the order.
If the cancellation is successfully processed before dispatch, any applicable refund will be processed to the original payment method where reasonably possible.
Once an order has been dispatched, KarooKit may not be able to cancel the order before delivery.
The customer may then need to follow the applicable return or statutory cancellation procedure.
Nothing in this section limits a customer’s statutory cancellation rights.
13. DELAYED OR UNAVAILABLE ORDERS
KarooKit will endeavour to process and deliver orders within the period communicated to the customer.
The ECTA contains provisions dealing with performance of electronic transactions and circumstances where an order cannot be fulfilled.
Where goods are unavailable, the applicable statutory requirements regarding notification and refunds will apply.
Where a supplier fails to execute an order within the applicable agreed or statutory period, the consumer may have cancellation rights under the ECTA.
For an approved discretionary change-of-mind return:
Where South African law requires KarooKit to bear return or delivery costs, KarooKit will comply with the applicable legal requirement.
For example, under the ECTA cooling-off provision, the direct cost of returning the goods may be charged to the customer.
Approved refunds will generally be processed using the original payment method where reasonably possible.
For a valid discretionary change-of-mind return, the refund will be:
70% of the purchase price of the returned product, excluding delivery fees.
For statutory returns, the amount and timing of the refund will be determined by the applicable legislation.
Where a statutory right requires a full refund, KarooKit will not apply the 70% discretionary deduction.
The time required for funds to reflect in a customer’s bank or payment account may depend on the relevant payment provider or financial institution.
Returned products may be inspected before a discretionary return is approved.
KarooKit may assess:
Where a statutory consumer right applies, the assessment will be conducted consistently with applicable legislation.
KarooKit may offer an exchange where appropriate and where the requested replacement product is available.
For discretionary change-of-mind exchanges, the product must satisfy the applicable return requirements.
Where a statutory remedy applies, the customer’s rights under applicable law will take precedence.

KarooKit reserves the right to investigate suspected fraudulent or abusive return claims.
This may include attempts to return products that have been intentionally damaged, materially altered, misused or otherwise handled in a manner inconsistent with the applicable return conditions.
This provision does not affect a customer’s lawful statutory rights.
21. NO WAIVER OF CONSUMER RIGHTS
KarooKit does not intend for this policy to waive, exclude or restrict any right provided to consumers under South African law where such waiver, exclusion or restriction would be unlawful.
Any provision of this policy that conflicts with a mandatory legal requirement will be interpreted and applied to the extent permitted by law, and the applicable legislation will prevail.
This policy is governed by the laws of the Republic of South Africa.
In particular, it is intended to operate consistently with applicable provisions of:
The CPA establishes national consumer protection standards and provides consumers with rights relating to quality, defective goods and certain returns.
KarooKit may update this policy from time to time to reflect changes in its business practices or applicable legislation.
